Consequently, words and tunes have been improvised that are nearly always related to the different tasks in the fields; from watching over livestock, to reaping, and to grape harvesting. Alentejo today has a wonderful songbook that is part of the region’s cultural heritage. Every village and hamlet has its own melodies for its polyphonic singing groups.
