FINISTERRA

The vast coastline of the northern Atlantic, that begins along the Portuguese coast, at the western edge of Europe, was for centuries seen as the place “where the land ends and the sea begins*”. It is a constant theme in Portuguese culture, history, memory and landscape. Until the 12th century, it was believed that this place was the “end of the world” or the “end of the land” – the FINISTERRA.

The horizon was filled by the endless sea, a sea that at the time was believed to be inhabited by terrible monsters and giants, who would guarantee the certain death of anyone who dared to cross it. It was then that Portuguese sailors set off to explore and discover, thus giving rise to the so-called “Portuguese maritime adventure”, which later became known as “the Discoveries”, and the myth was destroyed for good.

Many of the sailors on this adventure came from the Alentejo, the Region in the south of Portugal where this wine is produced. Finisterra is a tribute to these adventurers who set off to “tell the World about new worlds”.
